PARTICIPANT DETAILS

WHAT IS PROVIDED?

If you are selected as a Bee Victorious Initiative Participant, you will receive the following at no cost:

  • A double-stack bee box custom-painted by a local artist
  • Beginner's beekeeping tools, including smoker, hat with veil, leather gloves, hive tool, bee brush, entrance feeder and handbook
  • A beginner's beekeeping training class from the Sacramento Area Beekeeping Association
  • A gift certificate to Talini's Nursery for starter organic gardening supplies
  • A victory garden training class with a local garden club

WHAT IS NOT PROVIDED?

Participants will be required to purchase their own live bees. A 3 lb. starter pack of 10,000 bees with mated queen is available from The Bee Box for $175; packages should be reserved in December to secure availability and will be available for pickup in April.

IF I AM SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE, WHAT IS REQUIRED OF ME?

Selected participants will need to:

  • Attend 2 celebratory events, one in mid-January and the other in May 2018 to help with fundraising for future years of the project
  • Attend 2 training sessions to learn how to care for your bees and garden
  • Sign a Hold Harmless Agreement to release artists of any potential liability arising from contact with bees
  • Share occasional updates, including photos, so that the community can hear about your sustainable successes!

WHAT IF I'M NOT SELECTED THIS YEAR, BUT I STILL WANT TO PARTICIPATE?

With luck, we will find funding to keep this project going year after year. Interested participants will be kept on file for future involvement. That said, it is our hope that community members will make the leap to backyard beekeeping and organic gardening without the financial support of this project as they are able. Please keep track of the initiative as we will provide local resources and updates designed to help you make this happen!
