The Bee Victorious Initiative is the brainchild of artist Marianne Bland. Its inaugural year is made possible by a grant from the Gloria Burt Sacramento Region Arts Fellowship, a joint project of the Sacramento Region Arts & Business Council, Blue Line Arts and the Sacramento Region Community Foundation.
Bee Victorious provides bee boxes painted by local artists along with start-up supplies for backyard beekeeping and organic victory gardens to promote artful sustainability in the Sacramento region.
To promote awareness of the Bee Victorious Initiative, the first year includes sculptural art projects in addition to the painted bee boxes.
Gloria Burt was an amazing creator of the arts and art scene in Sacramento. Her impact can be felt through influences in the visual and performing arts. She ran a gallery, created a publication to get the word out about arts in Sacramento, helped create Second Saturday, served on SMACs Public Art Committee, founded the Children's Day Festival and helped create the Sacramento Arts & Business Council among other lasting accomplishments. It is rare for a single person to do so much to support arts and artists in a region, and I am honored to have received her inaugural namesake grant to be put to use for a project that impacts my community positively, as she did.
